Masala chai, meaning “spiced tea,” is India's best known beverage, filled with caffeine and spice. Simmer this blend of assam black tea, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and clove on the stovetop with milk and sugar to make the most deliciously warm, cozy drink. For a quick fix, you can also steep it like any other tea.

STOVETOP DIRECTIONS Add 1 teaspoon with 3/4 cup water, 3/4 cup milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil then simmer for 10 minutes, and strain. Or, steep 1 teaspoon in 1 cup boiling water for 5 minutes. Add sugar or honey to taste and enjoy.

CAFFEINATED TEA Caffeinated teas come from a single tea plant, camellia sinensis. The leaves are picked and processed in different ways to yield the variety of caffeinated teas we enjoy.
Black Tea Black tea is made from rolling the tea leaves and oxidising them, which allows them to turn black. Heat is then applied to dry the leaves. Black teas feature deep and robust flavors and generally have the highest caffeine content of all tea. Our black teas are sourced from India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
Oolong Tea Oolong teas are partway between black teas and green teas. Some oolongs are darker and feature more roasted, caramelised or earthy flavors, and some are closer to green teas, with lighter, more floral, fruity, or grassy notes. Oolong tea contains a oderate level of moderate caffeine. Our oolong tea comes from Taiwan.
Green Tea Green tea is made from young fresh leaves, heated soon after picking to prevent oxidation and keep its green color. Moderate to low caffeine. Our green teas come from Japan and Taiwan.
HERBAL TEA Herbal teas, also called tisanes, are infusions made from plants outside of the tea plant. Herbal teas are usually caffeine free, as are all the herbal teas we carry. (There are some plants besides camellia sinensis that do contain caffeine, such as yerba mate and yaupon holly; however we do not carry those currently in our collection.) Herbal teas can be made from a wide variety of herbs, flowers, and spices. You are likely already acquainted with some of the more popular ingredients in herbal teas, such as mint, chamomile, ginger, hibiscus and rooibos.
